Does the Baltimore clinic have evening hours?
Yes. Federal Injury Centers of South Baltimore is open until 7 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and until 6 PM on Tuesday and Thursday, opening at 9 AM each weekday. Closed Saturday and Sunday. That makes it practical for shift workers at the Baltimore P&DC, BWI and the VA Medical Center to be seen after a day tour without using leave. Hours may vary on federal holidays.
I work at SSA or CMS in Woodlawn. Is the South Baltimore clinic close?
Yes — Woodlawn is about 10–15 minutes from the clinic via the Beltway (I-695) or Wilkens Avenue. Social Security Administration and CMS employees are among the largest groups of federal workers we treat in the Baltimore area, most often for repetitive-strain conditions (carpal tunnel, cervical and lumbar strain) that are filed as occupational disease claims on Form CA-2 and need a physician's rationalized causation opinion — which our DOL doctors provide at the visit.
I was hurt lifting at the Baltimore Processing & Distribution Center. What should I do?
Report the injury to your supervisor immediately, file a CA-1 in ECOMP within 30 days to preserve Continuation of Pay, and ask for a Form CA-16 so treatment is authorized while OWCP reviews the claim. Then call (240) 863-2822 — you have the right under FECA to choose your own treating physician and do not have to use the doctor the plant sends you to. Bring the CA-16 to South Baltimore; we complete Part B, the CA-17 Duty Status Report and the CA-20 before you leave.
Do you treat VA Maryland Health Care System employees?
Yes. Nurses, nursing assistants, technicians, police and support staff at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, Loch Raven and Perry Point are federal civilian employees covered by FECA. Patient-handling back and shoulder injuries, needlesticks and injuries from workplace violence are all treated at the South Baltimore clinic and documented for OWCP.
Is federal workers' comp different from Maryland workers' comp?
Completely. As a federal or USPS employee your claim is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor's OWCP under FECA, not by the Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission. FECA has its own forms (CA-1, CA-2, CA-7, CA-16, CA-17, CA-20), its own rules for choosing a doctor, Continuation of Pay for the first 45 days, and a schedule award system for permanent impairment. A Baltimore clinic that handles Maryland state comp is not automatically set up for federal claims; Federal Injury Centers treats federal claims exclusively.
